Hiring Range: $17.29 to $21.62 Per Hour

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Grade: 101

Full Pay Range: $17.29 to $25.94 Per Hour

Sun-Thurs 9am-5pm (Seasonal)

Please note:

This position will be full-time throughout the holiday season and will transition to approximately 30 hours per week at a later date.

Position Summary:

Performs custodial work and light maintenance for the department.

Essential Duties:

  • Opens building and disarms security systems if/when necessary.
  • Performs general custodial and maintenance of buildings parking lots and facilities to ensure all are operating in a safe clean and orderly manner.
  • Cleans all areas floors
  • Sweeps mops scrubs waxes and buffs bare floors and baseboards; vacuums and cleans/shampoos carpeted floors.
  • Washes windows walls and mirrors.
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms and replenishes supplies.
  • Dust and cleans light fixtures chairs and offices.
  • Empties trash.
  • Checks in and stocks supplies; update supervisor with reorder items.
  • Move furniture and equipment.
  • Clears snow from building walkways in winter and treats with deicer as needed to ensure safe walkways if necessary.
  • Handles or notifies supervisor of potential trip fire and other possible hazards in assigned area(s). Shuttle airport passengers as necessary (seasonal).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Prefer some custodial experience including some familiarity with MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) although not required; or any equivalent combination of education experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Licensing Certifications and Other Requirements:

Possess a valid Arizona drivers license (or obtain one within 30 days of hire): pass a TSA-mandated 10-year security background investigation pre-employment drug test fingerprint background check security threat assessment and driver record check.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of supplies machinery equipment and tools necessary for maintaining public areas such as using floor buffing machines.
  • Knowledge of basic preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions including MSDA sheets.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods such as carpet cleaning methods.
  • Knowledge of common hand and power tools.
  • Skill in exercising care in the use of cleaning materials for different types of surfaces.
  • Skill in operating equipment used on the job such as automated scrubbers and buffers.
  • Skill in troubleshooting issues with small appliances and equipment such as vacuums.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to follow safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to work alone in an empty building.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to be self-directed to meet established routine deadlines.
  • Ability to be self-motivated.
  • Ability to speak read and write English.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed indoors with some work outside in potentially adverse weather conditions.
  • Safely performs physically demanding duties including repetitive standing walking reaching and stretching for long periods of time.
  • Safely lifts pushes pulls and carries between 50 - 75 pounds up and down stairs without assistance on a regular basis.
  • Requires working shifts including evening night and/or weekend shifts and may require traveling unescorted between various City buildings during shifts.
  • Work is performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.

Successful candidate will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include:
