Job Description

Fast Lane Transportation, Inc. , a prominent player in the intermodal industry, is seeking dedicated and skilled individuals for the roles of Mechanic and Mechanic's Helper at our Adelanto, California depot. We are looking for candidates with a strong mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and a team-oriented mindset. Essential Functions include the following:

  • Repairs trailers, containers, and chassis
  • Performs routine maintenance and inspections. May include, inspecting and replacing lights; inspecting and repairing doors, cleaning rust, and prepping welding areas; replacing mud flaps, inspecting, and replacing crank handles; wash outs, etc.
  • Changes tires
  • Grease equipment
  • Perform container repairs
  • Ensures electrical system is error free
  • Assists with checking trailers, chassis and shipping containers into and out of the yard utilizing a handheld device
  • Utilizes computer tablet to document repair estimates, record damage, confirm repairs, etc.
  • Uses diagnostic tools to test vehicle components
  • Completes all work in a timely and consistent manner
  • Strictly adheres to all safety rules and regulations
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, hearing protection, welding leathers & goggles, steel toe safety boots, etc.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • FMCSA/BIT Certification desired
  • IICL Certification desired
  • Strong work ethic
  • Deadline and detail oriented
  • Previous experience, formal or informal, as a mechanic or tradesperson
  • Basic knowledge of shop equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of electrical or other trades a plus
  • Welding experience a plus
  • UTR (yard goat/hostler) driving experience a plus
  • Ability to use computer and smart phone devices at an intermediate or higher level
  • Ability to use two-way radio
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with those in the Company and customers
  • Ability to speak, read and write English

Experience:

  • Chassis Repair: Minimum 2 years
  • Mechanical knowledge: 2 years
  • Helper role is an entry level position. Job training provided.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Physically demanding role including, but not limited to, lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and working in awkward positions for extended periods of time. Limited sitting. Requires using hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Work may be performed out of doors and subject to environmental conditions including heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay Range: $18.00 - $32.00 per hour depending upon level of skills and experience

Payroll Workweek: Monday thru Friday - 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM

  • Workweek is typically Monday to Saturday, 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM
  • Weekend availability is required
  • Overtime, while not guaranteed, tends to be consistently required approximately nine (9) months out of twelve (12) each year
